Privacy policy for PSYCTC.org services
This policy covers how PSYCTC.org treats personal information that PSYCTC.org collects and receives, including information related to your past use of PSYCTC.org services. Personal information is information that personally identifies you such as your name, address, email address, or phone number and information that I may have which is linked to such information, i.e. list usage information that contains your Email address.
Information Collection and Use
- PSYCTC.org collects personal information when you register with PSYCTC.org Email lists (which includes lists run by me on behalf of other organisations and sometimes which may be accessible from internet domains I run other than PSYCTC.org, e.g. ATPRN.org and ATPRN.org.uk). Once you register with an Email list I run or other service you are not anonymous to me though generally I collect no information other than Email address.
- If you post to a list, your Email address is revealed to all other members of the list at that time.
- PSYCTC.org records information about your Emails to lists or to the server or myself and may identifiably record your use of PSYCTC.org web pages (generally not unless the web pages are restricted ones).
- Such information is collected automatically in the server's logs. For Emails the logs always include your Email address and so information logged is always personal information. Web browser logs always collect the IP address from which you appear to be browsing (rarely one that identifies you, so not personal data), however some of my logging, e.g. of use of my interactive web programs, may include your Email address which is personal information.
- I use the information collected for the following general purposes: to keep the lists and web pages running, to contact you if things appear to be malfunctioning, to conduct research on how the services work and are used.
- I reserve the right to send you Emails about PSYCTC.org services without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them. I do this simply to make the service viable as a zero-cost service to subscribers.
- No research that is other than for my own purposes in keeping the services running well will ever identify anyone by disclosure of personal information. It is possible that research reports may enable others who were on lists to guess who a person was, I will try to contact people to ask their permission if using quotes from them or if their service use might identify them.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
- I do not release personal information about you to anyone else except to run the services you've opted into. I only release this information in the sense that whatever Internet Service Provider I use, currently BTConnect.com, are likely to see the Email addresses and, in principle, the full content of all Emails, that the server delivers. They are much less likely to be technically able to see web page accesses though it's technically possible for them to do so though almost certainly illegal for them to do so. To the best of my knowledge, they cannot see any accesses to, or content of,
- I will not transfer identifying information about list membership to others without explicit permission from you
- In the incredibly unlikely event that this happens, I assume I would respond to subpoenas etc. that might seem to have legal right to information.
- I do believe it is necessary to share information to prevent spamming, distribution of "malware" (virii and worms), serious illegal activities, suspected fraud or situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person and will do so. I would only use someone's personal information in this way without telling if either if it were explicitly required by law or it were seemingly impossible to contact someone (possible if their computer is being hijacked for aggressive abuse).
- I cannot envisage PSYCTC.org ever being acquired by or merged with another company. If that were to happen I would notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Cookies
- I may set and access PSYCTC.org "cookies" on your computer. Currently I do not use cookies
Your Ability to Edit and Delete Your Account Information and Preferences
- I reserve the right to send you Emails about PSYCTC.org services without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them. I do this simply to make the service viable as a zero-cost service to subscribers.
- You can withdrawn from any PSYCTC.org Email list at any time. The instructions about how to do so automatically are in the footers and headers of every message sent by every list. If those instructions don't work, contact me by Email (http://www.psyctc.org/cgi-bin/mailto.pl?webmaster) or write to me at the address below and I will remove your Email address provided that I can.
- Occasionally people have changed Email addresses and left forwarding arrangements but seem to have forgotten their original address. In such situations I will try to help people work out whence psyctc.org Emails are reaching them but make no promises that I will be able to sort this out definitively. If you don't remember your old address, it's hard for me to remove it and it's no longer personal data and I am under no obligations to remove it! (I hate to write this bit like this but people do get pretty angry.!)
- After someone leaves a list I do keep my records of list membership and traffic. I believe it is a legitimate and necessary obligation on me to do this and I do reserve the right to analyse such data for my own research or published research. See above for your protection from personal identification from any such published research.
Confidentiality and Security
- I am currently the only person who has access to the server and its personal data. That may not always be true. Anyone who joins me in running the services will be required to obey this policy.
- The server runs in a reasonably secure physical location and I use the best reasonable computing and procedural safeguards to protect the information it holds.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
I may update this policy and if so I will notify the lists I run of any major changes and the web site will point to the changes.
