I think that you would find some of the neo-PCP writing to be very
compatible with the position you discuss. That is, self presentation is a
matter of construction of self, but such construction in action must be
processed, as text, by the observer. Thus, the observer and the actor perform
in concert to "create" the personality of the dialogists.
In many ways the social constructionists would tend to go along with
this, but they have trouble, as I see it, in that they haven't done a very
adequate job of "explaining" [telling a story about] the origins of the self
constructive processes -- in short, they have done a good job of ignoring the
personal construct system [because they got off on a bad track by criticising
"cognitive psychology," which they define, as I see it, as a reactive process,
rather than as proactive process, as Mahoney describes such, and as is quite
compatible with PCP.]
