I always thought that there was a process involved (at least at the individual
level): 1. "hardening of the categories" and 2) extortion of validation
(hostility). I am inclined to believe that persons have a "right" to their
categories - and the anticipations that follow, but not to enforce their
constructs or consequences of same on others.
