However, they do seem to keep rediscovering PCP without knowing it--the
latest example is an article from the APA Monitor, June 97, which
announces a new theory of child development: "Infants are like little
scientists, testing and modifying theories to figure out how the world
works, according to a novel theory of child development." The article
goes on to describe the work of Andrew Meltzoff and Alison Gopnik, and
their book, WORDS, THOUGHTS, AND THEORIES (MIT Press, 1997). It is
suggested that this new approach will replace Piagetian theory. No
explanation is offered as to why children stop acting like scientists when
they hit puberty....
