Sugguestions:
1. Search Dissertation Abstracts, especially for nursing and rep grid.
2. Politely enquire as to what your advisor means by "Should", e.g.
must (if so why?)
ought

is all he knows about
3. If appropriate, provide him with results of examination of other
dissertations, thus appealing to autority (universities, advisors,
authors).
4. If necessary, get a less righd advisor.
Your problem is typical.
Be particularly careful in this regard of outside committee members.
