Changing a File

Sometimes you will want to update or edit one of the files belonging to your list. You will certainly want (or you should want) to regularly read and update the introduction file which is sent out to all your list members.

  1. If you don't already have a copy of the file, you must get one from Mailbase.

  2. You must retrieve a new File template from Mailbase by sending the following command.
    send mailbase new-file-template

  3. When the template arrives, fill it in carefully.

  4. The line in the template which says ADD FILE must be changed to UPDATE FILE

When you're updating a file, you can omit bits of the template. For example, if you are only updating the text of the file you can leave out the description, file type and author.

    OWNER PASSWORD secret-password
    UPDATE FILE listname filename

    TEXT:
The new text of the file goes in here
    ENDTEXT:

  5. When you have finished, send the template to mailbase@mailbase.ac.uk
