Adding Web Files

An HTML or web file can be added to your list in the same way as you would add a plain text file.

For an example, look at the Other Files section of Mailbase-News

Learning HTML

Before you write a Webpage you will need to learn HTML or HyperText Markup Language. Your local computing support will be able to help you, or you can find some more information at Netskills

Adding a welcome.html file

If you create a file called welcome.html this will be displayed whenever you follow the Other Files link on your list's homepage.

  1. Create and save your HTML document as you would normally do.

  2. Retrieve a new File template from Mailbase by sending the following command.
    send mailbase new-file-template

  3. When the template arrives, fill it carefully. The filename is welcome.html and the filetype is HTML

  4. Send your completed template to: mailbase@mailbase.ac.uk

Note: Adding a welcome.html webpage will suppress the list of files which normally appears, so you have to make links to them on the webpage.

Adding other Webpages

You can create other html files and make links to them from the welcome.html file. For example, you might wish to have links to useful resources in your subject area or to conference reports.

  1. Create your other HTML files

  2. Add them to the list

  3. Edit your copy of welcome.html so it has hypertext links which lead to the new files

  4. Update the copy of welcome.html which is on Mailbase.
